Salesforce Automation Engineer | Federal Government

Contract: 12 months + 12 months | Based on the discretion of the Department

Security Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance (Preferred)

Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid)

Core purpose: Drive end-to-end automation of Salesforce environments in a mission-critical national platform.

About our ideal candidate:

We are hiring a technically strong Salesforce Automation Engineer to join our client’s high-performance platform team, contributing to initiatives of national significance. This is a hands-on role focused on automating sandbox provisioning using custom Salesforce CLI plugins, Node.js/TypeScript, and the Salesforce Tooling API all within a CI/CD-aligned delivery model.

You will work within a forward-leaning, DevOps-aware engineering team focused on removing manual bottlenecks and enabling rapid environment delivery through secure, scalable, and testable automation layers.

About the position:

  • Engineer and maintain Salesforce CLI plugins to automate sandbox provisioning workflows.
  • Build custom internal tools in Node.js/TypeScript, aligned with modern engineering standards and API-first principles.
  • Integrate automation into NDIA’s CI/CD pipeline, delivering repeatable and auditable environment provisioning.
  • Use plugins like sfdx-hardis and browserforce where appropriate; extend or customise where needed.
  • Define roadmaps for environment automation maturity; collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to iterate delivery.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong experience developing Salesforce CLI plugins (not just using them) in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Proven ability to work with the Salesforce Tooling API in JavaScript/TypeScript environments.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience developing with Node.js, and frameworks such as React, Vue, or Next.js.
  • Familiarity with sfdx-hardis, browserforce, and the broader Salesforce automation ecosystem.
  • Ability to translate complex technical problems into scalable, CI/CD-compatible tooling solutions.
  • Confident communication and collaboration skills across engineering, release, and platform teams.

Desirable experience:

  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to automation quality and scripting detail.
  • Exposure to accessibility-aware development practices.
  • Passion for DevX, provisioning automation, and internal tooling excellence.

Why Join Our Client?

  • Build automation that removes friction from one of the most impactful national programs.
  • Operate in a fast-paced engineering space with meaningful influence on platform operations.
  • Collaborate with a team focused on innovation, code quality, and tooling excellence – not just patchwork solutions.
