Talent International is currently recruiting for a Safety Lead to work for the Local Government, based in Blacktown. This position is a contract role for 2 months initially, with a view to be extended, and the role pays $77.39 per hour + Super.

7 hours a day / 35 hours a week

The role

As Safety Lead, you will help establish and maintain a safe, healthy and compliant workplace for Council employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors. You will provide practical WHS advice, promote a strong safety culture, and support compliance with relevant WHS legislation, policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Promote WHS compliance and safe work practices across Council operations.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, internal WHS audits and hazard assessments.
  • Identify hazards, coordinate corrective actions and follow up non-conformances.
  • Assist with WHS incident investigations and review safety reports.
  • Support Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and consult with workers, contractors and managers on workplace changes.
  • Provide advice on WHS training, inductions, PPE and health monitoring activities.
  • Monitor emergency response, first aid arrangements and contractor safety management.
  • Promote the use of risk registers, permits to work and other WHS controls.
  • Maintain WHS records, document control processes and reporting requirements.
  • Collect, analyse and report on WHS data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Make practical recommendations to reduce workplace risks.

About you

To be successful, you will have:

  • A Diploma in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Solid WHS experience, including WHS systems and safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience delivering basic WHS training and supporting workplace inductions.
  • The ability to work effectively across a varied and multi-dimensional operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • A current Class C Driver Licence.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic WHS team.

Desirable experience

  • Understanding of WHS audit processes.
  • Experience within Local Government.
  • Experience working for a NSW self-insured employer.
