Risk Assurance Manager - Financial Crime
Our client:
Talent International has partnered with a major Australian organisation operating in a complex and highly regulated environment.
The business is continuing to strengthen its Financial Crime capability and is seeking an experienced assurance professional who can provide trusted, independent judgement on regulatory compliance, control effectiveness and emerging risks.
The role:
This is a permanent Line 2 Risk Assurance position responsible for providing independent assurance over the organisation’s Financial Crime framework and control environment.
You will become a key Financial Crime subject matter expert, leading assurance reviews across the customer lifecycle and giving senior stakeholders confidence that regulatory obligations are being met. Where controls or processes are not operating effectively, you will be expected to clearly explain the issue, assess its significance and recommend practical action.
The role goes beyond completing scheduled reviews. You will analyse incidents, breaches and assurance outcomes to identify wider trends, determine where future reviews should be focused and help the business understand what good looks like.
You will also contribute to the evolution of the Financial Crime program as the organisation introduces technologies such as advanced screening, case workflow automation and AI-assisted review processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, scope and lead Line 2 assurance reviews across Financial Crime and AML/CTF.
- Assess the design and operating effectiveness of Financial Crime controls.
- Review customer lifecycle processes, including onboarding, ongoing monitoring and enhanced customer due diligence.
- Identify potential regulatory breaches and escalate material concerns promptly.
- Assess remediation activity and validate that identified issues have been appropriately resolved.
- Analyse incidents, review findings and control failures to identify systemic risks and emerging trends.
- Provide independent review and challenge to senior Financial Crime and business stakeholders.
- Prepare clear assurance reports and present findings at senior leadership and governance forums.
- Recommend where future assurance activity should be targeted based on risk, incidents and customer trends.
- Support Financial Crime change initiatives, including new systems, screening tools and program adjustments.
- Provide oversight and guidance to analysts contributing to assurance reviews.
- Improve assurance methodologies through data analytics, technology and more efficient testing approaches.
Skills and experience:
You will be an experienced Financial Crime, risk, compliance or assurance professional who is comfortable making informed judgements and standing behind your recommendations.
To be successful, you will ideally bring:
- Strong knowledge of Financial Crime regulation, including AML, counter-terrorism financing, sanctions and related customer controls.
- Experience working within a Line 1 Financial Crime function, Line 2 assurance team or another relevant risk and compliance environment.
- An end-to-end understanding of AML/CTF frameworks and the Financial Crime customer lifecycle.
- Experience assessing controls, conducting assurance reviews or supporting regulatory remediation programs.
- The ability to interpret policies, procedures and regulatory requirements and quickly become the SME for a defined area.
- Confidence presenting findings and challenging senior stakeholders, including General Manager and executive-level audiences.
- Strong judgement, with the ability to distinguish between genuine regulatory exposure and unnecessary process complexity.
- Experience within gaming, banking, financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong written reporting, analytical and stakeholder management capability.
Relevant qualifications or certifications such as ACAMS or ICA would be beneficial but are not essential.
Benefits and additional information:
- Permanent opportunity within a critical and increasingly important area of the organisation.
- Broad exposure across the full Financial Crime and customer risk lifecycle.
- Direct engagement with senior Risk, Financial Crime and business leaders.
- Genuine influence over assurance priorities, control design and program improvement.
- Opportunity to work across emerging Financial Crime technologies and data-led assurance.
- A role where your professional judgement will be valued, rather than relying solely on rigid checklists.
- Supportive and collaborative team environment with autonomy to take ownership of your work.
- Competitive salary package, with flexibility for candidates who bring strong Financial Crime expertise.
The position is responsible for testing controls against applicable AML/CTF obligations, internal programs and risk frameworks, while also providing assurance over Financial Crime change and system initiatives.
