Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) Engineer
- NV1 Security Clearance Required
- Canberra Based | Full-Time Onsite
Position Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) Engineer to support a major capability program focused on delivering complex maritime and amphibious platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will play a critical role in ensuring systems are reliable, operationally available, and maintainable throughout their lifecycle. This position contributes directly to platform readiness by supporting design, testing, sustainment, and continuous improvement activities that maximise operational performance in challenging environments.
Key Duties
- Analyse and predict system and platform reliability, including propulsion, mechanical, electrical, mission, and vehicle subsystems.
- Develop and maintain reliability, availability, and maintainability models to support operational readiness objectives.
- Conduct failure analysis, Weibull analysis, reliability growth assessments, and availability modelling activities.
- Support the development and optimisation of maintenance concepts, repair strategies, and sustainment frameworks.
- Contribute to maintenance planning, spares provisioning, and lifecycle support strategies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to embed RAM principles into system design and integration activities.
- Monitor in-service performance and identify trends, failure modes, and maintenance bottlenecks.
- Produce technical assessments, RAM management plans, FMECA reports, engineering reports, and requirements traceability documentation.
- Provide recommendations to improve fleet availability, system performance, and long-term sustainment outcomes.
- Engage with a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to support project objectives.
Skills and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) engineering within complex engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of Weibull analysis, failure distributions, MTBF/MTTR calculations, reliability growth, degradation analysis, and availability modelling.
- Experience applying systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle, including requirements development, integration, verification, and validation.
- Knowledge of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) principles and sustainment engineering practices.
- Experience working with maritime, naval, land, or similarly complex asset-intensive platforms.
- Proven ability to analyse technical drawings, schematics, test data, and failure data to support engineering decisions.
- Experience preparing technical reports, FMECA documentation, RAM plans, and engineering assessments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.
- Current NV1 Security Clearance.
