Project Financial Manager | Canberra ACT | Contract to June 2027

About the Client

A Federal Government Department is responsible for delivering and sustaining critical maritime capability that supports Australia’s border protection, surveillance and operational readiness functions.
The role sits within a specialist maritime capability environment responsible for managing complex capability acquisition, transition and sustainment activities. The team works closely with operational, engineering, financial and Defence stakeholders to ensure capability outcomes are delivered effectively and sustainably.

About the Role

The Project Financial Manager will lead financial and governance activities associated with the transition of the Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boat (ECCPB) capability into sustainment. The position requires strong project management, financial analysis and stakeholder engagement capability to support governance, risk management, contract performance and operational readiness activities across a complex maritime environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the ECCPB sustainment transition project plan.

  • Establish governance frameworks and contract performance management arrangements.

  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement across government and Defence stakeholders.

  • Monitor project risks, issues, dependencies and reporting requirements.

  • Support financial planning, cost analysis and schedule management activities.

  • Contribute to sustainment planning and operational readiness outcomes.

  • Prepare project reporting and recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Support continuous improvement and governance compliance activities.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated project management experience within maritime, Defence or complex government environments.

  • Strong financial management, budgeting and cost analysis capability.

  • Experience establishing governance, reporting and risk management frameworks.

  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills across multiple organisations and senior levels.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a complex operational environment.

  • Strong written communication and briefing skills.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in Project Management, Finance, Commerce, Engineering or related discipline.

  • Maritime, Defence or sustainment program experience highly regarded.

Eligibility / Other Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship mandatory.

  • Current NV1 Security Clearance or ability to obtain.

  • Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) required.

  • Relevant pre-employment, integrity and background checks will apply.

  • Compliance with departmental security, confidentiality and conduct requirements.
