We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Server Administrator (AO7) to join a large, complex enterprise ICT environment on an initial 4-month contract.

This role sits within Corporate Services and supports critical infrastructure enabling essential public-facing services across housing, planning, public works and regulatory operations. You will be part of a specialist server team responsible for maintaining and improving a large-scale hybrid Microsoft environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will work within a team of technical specialists responsible for implementing, maintaining and optimising a complex ICT infrastructure landscape.

The environment is predominantly Microsoft-based, with hybrid Azure and on-premise systems, including some Linux platforms. The role offers hybrid working arrangements based in Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, manage and support Azure-based and hybrid infrastructure
  • Automate infrastructure and operational processes using PowerShell, JSON and Bicep
  • Develop and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for infrastructure automation
  • Manage virtual environments across Azure and VMware
  • Implement and maintain automated patching solutions (SCCM / Azure Update Manager)
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery solutions (Azure Recovery Services Vaults, Veeam)
  • Monitor systems and respond proactively to alerts using Azure Monitor
  • Administer Active Directory and identity-integrated services
  • Manage the full server lifecycle (build, patch, upgrade, decommission)
  • Lead incident management and complex problem resolution activities
  • Provide expert infrastructure advice to stakeholders at all levels
  • Identify service improvement opportunities and contribute to infrastructure uplift initiatives
  • Coordinate minor infrastructure projects and system upgrades

About You

You are a senior infrastructure specialist with extensive experience operating in large, enterprise ICT environments. You combine strong technical capability with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

You will demonstrate:

  • Deep expertise in Azure and hybrid cloud environments
  • Strong automation capability (PowerShell, Bicep, DevOps pipelines)
  • Experience managing VMware environments
  • Advanced knowledge of patching, backup and recovery solutions
  • Strong Active Directory administration skills
  • Advanced incident management and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset focused on reliability, automation and service improvement
