Policy Officer
We’re seeking an experienced Policy Officer to join a collaborative government project team delivering high-impact environmental policy initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a policy professional who enjoys working on complex issues, engaging diverse stakeholders, and developing high-quality guidance and policy materials that influence decision-making at both Executive and national levels.
This contract role will play a key part in supporting the development of a national guideline for the safe management of lithium-ion batteries at end of life, contributing to better environmental outcomes across Australia. It is a contract role through to end of December.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality policy papers, guidance documents, briefing materials and communication resources for Executive and external audiences.
- Support the delivery of complex policy and regulatory projects, ensuring milestones and outcomes are achieved within agreed timeframes.
- Research, analyse and interpret legislation, policy and evidence to provide practical recommendations.
- Engage with government agencies, industry, community organisations and other stakeholders to build effective partnerships.
- Contribute to communication and engagement activities supporting policy implementation.
- Prepare reports, project documentation and advice for senior decision-makers.
You’ll bring:
- Demonstrated experience developing policy, regulatory guidance or strategic projects within government or a similarly complex environment.
- Exceptional written communication skills with experience producing Executive briefs, policy papers, guidance documents and stakeholder communications.
- Qualifications in public policy, environmental science, law, planning, economics or a related discipline.
- Experience in environmental policy, waste management, contaminated land or regulatory policy.
- Knowledge of Victorian Government policy development processes or environmental regulation.
