About the Client
Our client is a Commonwealth Government organisation delivering nationally focused services and public-purpose outcomes. The organisation is undertaking a payroll remediation project following a transition from a legacy system to a new HRMIS payroll system.
The project requires a detailed manual audit of employee leave balances to ensure records are accurate and any discrepancies can be corrected.
About the Role
Talent is seeking multiple Payroll Audit Officers at APS5, APS6 or EL1 equivalent level, depending on skills and experience. The engagement will be for 6 months and may be offered as either a non-ongoing appointment or labour hire contract.
You will review and reconcile annual, personal, long service and prior service leave balances for up to 530 employees. The work will involve detailed spreadsheet analysis, review of payroll records, documentation of discrepancies and preparation of information to support rectification activities.
The role is based in Canberra. Flexible arrangements may be available; however, attendance in the office will be required on nominated days to review physical employee records.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed audits of annual, personal, long service and prior service leave balances.
- Reconcile leave data between legacy payroll records and the current HRMIS payroll system.
- Identify discrepancies and document audit findings clearly.
- Analyse and validate payroll and leave data using Microsoft Excel.
- Prepare structured reports outlining discrepancies and recommended corrections.
- Support payroll rectification documentation and appropriate records management.
- Work with payroll, HR and corporate stakeholders to clarify records and resolve data issues.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience auditing leave balances or undertaking comparable payroll reconciliation or remediation work.
- Experience in payroll, finance or a closely related field.
- Sound understanding of Australian Government and APS payroll requirements.
- Ability to interpret relevant employment legislation, industrial instruments, policies and compliance obligations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including manual reconciliation and validation of large data sets.
- Strong attention to detail and clear written reporting skills.
Qualifications
- Relevant payroll, finance, accounting or HR qualifications will be well regarded but are not specified as mandatory.
Eligibility / Other Requirements
- Ability to commence immediately or at short notice.
- No security clearance is specified for this role.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a police check is required.
- Australian Citizenship is required
- Office attendance will be required on nominated days in Canberra.
Contract Rate
For labour hire engagements, the source brief provides the following indicative hourly rates plus 12% super:
- APS5: $53.99-$58.85 per hour
- APS6: $60.62-$67.89 per hour
- EL1: $74.00-$80.66 per hour
Non-ongoing remuneration will be aligned to the relevant classification and confirmed as part of the engagement process.
