As part of a major, multi-year network modernisation program, we are seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to play a critical role in designing, building and maintaining secure enterprise and operational network environments.

The Role:
Reporting to the Network Security Services Lead, you will provide senior-level technical leadership and subject matter expertise across the lifecycle of complex network security systems. You will work closely with engineering, operations and project teams to ensure secure, resilient and compliant network services that support safety-critical aviation operations.

This role operates in a 24×7, safety-first environment and includes participation in an on-call roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist expertise in the design, implementation and support of secure network and telecommunications systems
  • Lead and contribute to network security architecture, assurance and system integrity activities
  • Support major network modernisation projects through planning, design, implementation and transition to operations
  • Investigate, manage and resolve complex network security incidents, defects and vulnerabilities
  • Develop and review technical artefacts including specifications, designs, test plans, procedures and policies
  • Ensure systems comply with CASA, ICAO, Australian Government security frameworks and internal standards
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to less experienced engineers
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, project teams and external vendors to ensure delivery outcomes are met

About You
You are a senior network security professional with deep technical expertise and experience working in complex, high-availability environments. You are comfortable working with minimal supervision, providing authoritative advice, and leading through influence.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex network security infrastructure
  • Strong expertise across technologies such as NGFW, BGP, traffic engineering, web and reverse proxies, WAF, IDS/IPS, VPN and remote access
  • Solid understanding of Australian Government security frameworks including ISM and PSPF
  • Proven experience in security incident response, vulnerability management and mitigation
  • Strong systems engineering, change management and documentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage both technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications & Clearances

  • Diploma (minimum) in IT, Engineering or a related field – Mandatory
  • Australian Citizenship with Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • Advanced certifications in Cisco, Palo Alto, Check Point, F5 and/or Infoblox (or equivalent experience)

Highly Desirable:

  • AWS Advanced Networking/Security or Microsoft Azure certifications
  • CISSP / ISSEP
  • Engineering degree and eligibility for CPEng or RPEng
