Network Engineer - DER Integration
We are working with a leading electricity distribution organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) across the distribution network.
This role sits within a specialist DSO and network planning function and focuses on optimising the grid to support the increasing uptake of solar, batteries, EVs and flexible demand, while enabling smarter use of existing infrastructure and avoiding unnecessary capital investment.
The position is Melbourne CBD-based with a flexible working arraignment of 3 days in the office & 2 from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead grid engineering activities focused on DER and DSO integration
- Develop and maintain DER integration and DSO capability roadmaps
- Support the evolution and uplift of DERMS functionality over time
- Work closely with network planning teams to optimise grid investment decisions
- Support DER trials (e.g. flexible exports, EV integration) and transition to BAU
- Contribute to grid strategy, regulatory submissions, and rule change responses
- Engage with regulators, government bodies, and industry working groups
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and graduates
Key Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
- 4-5+ years’ experience in electricity distribution or transmission
- Practical experience in grid planning, DER integration, DSO or DERMS
- Strong understanding of distribution networks and emerging DER technologies
- Ability to operate across technical, strategic, and stakeholder-facing work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- RPEV / RPEQ (or ability to obtain) highly regarded
- Please note: candidates with purely academic backgrounds and no applied industry experience will not be suitable for this role.
