Mainframe Software Developer – Contract

Location: Melbourne CBD (onsite)
Duration: Until October 2026 (likely extensions)
Daily rate: $800 inclusive of superannuation

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Mainframe Developers to join a Federal Government agency, working on large-scale, mission-critical systems within a collaborative and high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain COBOL applications in a z/OS environment
  • Write and optimise SQL queries for DB2
  • Integrate applications with DB2 and IBM MQ
  • Manage access and security using RACF
  • Perform code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Contribute to documentation and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Skills

  • COBOL (z/OS)
  • DB2 for z/OS (SQL, utilities, integration)
  • RACF (security and access control)
  • IBM MQ (messaging integration)
  • z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM

Desirable:

  • Micro Focus tools
  • Mainframe modernisation experience
  • Agile/DevOps exposure

Security Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship OR Baseline Clearance required
  • Must pass pre-Engagement Integrity Check (tax compliance, residency, employment history)
