Lead Technical Writer / Content Designer – EL1 Level

📍 Location: NSW(Hybrid – min. 3 days onsite)
📅 Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension option
🔐 Clearance: Baseline (must hold or be able to obtain)
🛂 Citizenship: Australian Citizenship is mandatory

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Technical Writer (EL1 level) to join a large-scale transformation program within a Federal Government agency. This role plays a key part in ensuring high-quality technical documentation supports audit, compliance, operational integrity, and business continuity.

As part of a broader fraud prevention and integrity uplift initiative, the writer will work across multiple technical and business workstreams to develop structured documentation including system architecture, data flows, integration specifications, operational procedures, and user guides.

You’ll work closely with project and delivery managers, developers, analysts, and change managers to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and manage documentation for technical systems and processes

  • Document system architecture, data flows, APIs, and integration specifications

  • Produce user guides and operational runbooks for internal stakeholders

  • Collaborate with delivery teams to capture and structure technical knowledge

  • Ensure documentation aligns with audit, compliance, and governance standards

  • Support sprint reviews and release planning by documenting deliverables

  • Maintain document repositories and version control using agency-approved platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, JIRA)

  • Contribute to the development of templates, tools, and standards for consistent technical writing

  • Actively manage relationships with internal teams and represent the documentation function in relevant forums

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer in a government or large-scale transformation environment

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), data modelling, and agile delivery

  • Ability to manage competing priorities independently under tight deadlines

  • Exceptional written communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Familiarity with NDIA systems, language, and documentation standards is highly desirable

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in programs focused on fraud prevention, integrity uplift, or compliance

  • Knowledge of the Crack Down on Fraud (CDoF) program or similar initiatives

  • Experience with documentation platforms such as Confluence, SharePoint, and JIRA

  • Ability to contribute to BAU transition documentation and knowledge management
