A leading insurance organisation based in the Sydney CBD is seeking a Lead Data Engineer/ Consultant with a strong background working in complex data products to join their team on an initial 12-month contract

The successful Lead Data Engineer will play a key role in the development and implementation of data strategies to support a diverse range of functions across the business.

You will utilise expertise in SQL and dbt to analyse, design and document advanced data models.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead and facilitate workshops with cross-functional stakeholders to capture accurate business requirements, align product features with strategic goals, and maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the product life cycle.
  • Leverage advanced SQL and dbt expertise to design, analyse, and document scalable and high-performance data models that reflect complex business processes and meet defined requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive user stories and customer personas to inform data product design, ensuring alignment with user needs and optimal interaction with data assets.

Skills and experience required:

  • 8 + year’s experience in data solution roles, with a strong track record of delivering complex and scalable data products.
  • Expertise in SQL with experience using dbt
  • Highly skilled in conducting in-depth data analysis and translating insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including facilitating workshops and engaging with diverse stakeholder groups. Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify and convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Flexible and adaptable in fast-paced environments, with strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to managing change and uncertainty.
