    Java Developer

    Position Overview

    An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Java Developer to contribute to the design, development and delivery of complex digital services that support Australians. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you will play a key role in designing, building, testing and maintaining enterprise-grade applications while contributing to technical decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work alongside architects, analysts, testers, product owners and delivery teams to deliver secure,scalable and user-focused solutions.

    Key Duties

    • Design and develop high-quality Java-based software solutions and technical designs.
    • Build, test, deploy and maintain complex enterprise applications.
    • Provide technical advice and guidance on software development and maintenance activities.
    • Analyse technical requirements and contribute to solution design and project evaluation.
    • Develop prototypes, perform unit testing and support integration activities.
    • Provide go-live support and ongoing maintenance for applications and services.
    • Identify, investigate and resolve complex ICT issues and technical challenges.
    • Ensure compliance with software development methodologies, standards and security requirements.
    • Assess and manage technical risks throughout the development lifecycle.
    • Contribute to project delivery, business improvements and continuous enhancement initiatives.
    • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary Agile teams.

    Skills and Experience Required

    • Demonstrated experience developing applications using modern Java and Spring Framework technologies.
    • Experience working within Agile delivery environments and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Strong understanding of DevOps, SecDevOps and GitOps practices.
    • Experience developing and supporting integrated multi-tier application architectures.
    • Knowledge of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) principles and practices.
    • Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks such as JUnit.
    • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
    • Experience using version control platforms such as Git and GitLab.
    • Ability to respond to and remediate issues identified through security scanning tools (SAST/DAST).
    • Strong systems design, software development and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Experience applying software engineering standards, methods and tools aligned with SFIA Level 4.
    • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and collaboration skills.
    • Current Baseline Security Clearance.
