IT Infrastructure Operations Manager

We’re looking for a dynamic IT Infrastructure & Operations Manager for this SME wholesaler.

Reporting directly to the IT Director, you will lead a talented group of engineers and service desk professionals to ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient IT infrastructure and support services across on-premise and cloud (Azure) environments.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s cloud journey, modernising legacy platforms, and elevating the end-user experience. This role is hands-on and strategic, it is ideal for someone who can juggle operational oversight with transformation programs and stakeholder collaboration.

Key activities

  • Lead the daily operations of infrastructure, both on-premise and in Azure, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of ~9, including infrastructure engineers and the Service Desk function, fostering a strong customer service culture.
  • Drive cloud adoption and modernisation of legacy systems in line with enterprise architecture and security standards.
  • Collaborate with internal business leaders, group infrastructure and security teams, and key technology partners.
  • Manage IT operations to ensure compliance, continuity, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead infrastructure-related projects, contributing to business innovation and digital transformation.
  • Own and maintain IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
  • Provide regular reporting on infrastructure performance, service metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key skills and experience

  • Proven experience as an Infrastructure Operations Manager in an SME
  • Solid technical expertise in Windows & Linux enterprise infrastructure, Azure, SD-WAN, Office 365, Active Directory, ServiceNow, and hybrid cloud technologies.
  • Strong grasp of cybersecurity, authentication protocols, and governance standards.
  • Excellent leadership, prioritisation, and communication skills.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to balance “keeping the lights on” with strategic enhancements.
  • Exposure to Infor M3, BI platforms, and SaaS applications is highly desirable.
