Join a high-impact team as a Information & Privacy Officer where your expertise in information access, privacy, and legislation will directly shape transparent and compliant decision-making.

Key activities

  • Assess and determine access to sensitive information in line with legislative requirements
  • Manage complex, high-profile FOI requests (including media and political inquiries)
  • Respond to subpoenas, warrants, and statutory orders within strict deadlines
  • Liaise with applicants, legal representatives, insurers, and internal stakeholders
  • Conduct comprehensive searches across paper and digital records
  • Prepare submissions and respond to investigations from OVIC
  • Support legal proceedings, including briefing solicitors and appearing at VCAT if required
  • Provide expert advice to internal teams on FOI, privacy, and information release processes
  • Investigate privacy incidents and support breach response activities
  • Contribute to policy development, training, and awareness initiatives

Skills and experience

  • Experience making reviewable decisions within a legislative framework
  • Demonstrated experience processing FOI requests
  • Strong working knowledge of the FOI Act, Privacy & Data Protection Act (PDPA) and/or Health Records Act (HRA)
  • Experience in a legal environment (desirable)
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, manage competing deadlines, and deliver under pressure
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
