HSE & Risk Coordinator

Role Details:
- Support the Project HSE Manager and wider project team to embed best-practice HSE and risk management across a large-scale major capital project
- Maintain a strong on-site presence (approximately 80% site / 20% office), proactively identifying hazards, unsafe behaviours and non-conformances before incidents occur
- Act as a visible, hands-on safety presence on site – observing work in progress, intervening when things don’t look right, and coaching contractors on safer ways of working
- Lead and support HSE initiatives including site inductions, contractor engagement, audits, incident investigations and injury management
- Work closely with contractors from varying safety backgrounds, managing pushback professionally and influencing behaviour through education rather than enforcement
- Oversee and maintain existing project HSE systems, standards, emergency management documentation and the project risk register (no policy writing required)
- Document site observations through photos, reports and records, and contribute to HSE performance reporting and compliance requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a hands-on HSE role on commercial construction or major capital works projects (residential experience will not be suitable)
- Strong background working on active construction sites with high safety standards and complex contractor environments
- Proven ability to be proactive rather than reactive to HSE issues, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices respectfully
- Strong working knowledge of Australian HSE legislation, construction site compliance and risk management principles
- Demonstrated experience influencing site teams and contractors through coaching, communication and relationship-building
- Qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
Hours & Flexibility:
- Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays as required
- Typically 40-58 hours per week depending on site activity
- No fixed start or finish times – flexibility is essential, as early starts or later finishes may be required to support site operations
Additional Details & Benefits:
- Hands-on, supervisor-level role with genuine influence over on-site safety outcomes
- New position created to strengthen safety focus following recent incidents
- While this contract is project-based, strong performers are likely to be recommended for future projects within the organisation
- Opportunity to work on a high-profile major capital project for a leading ASX-listed manufacturer
- This position is separate to the HS&E Coordinator role previously advertised
