HS&E Coordinator
Talent International, a leading Australian recruitment firm, have been engaged by our long-standing client, a leading ASX-listed manufacturer, to support a critical hire within one of their capital projects. We are seeking an experienced HS&E Coordinator to support a major, long-term infrastructure program.
Role Title: HS&E Coordinator – Major Infrastructure Projects
Contract Length: Initial 12-month contract (strong likelihood of extension – long-term program through to 2033)
Location + WFH Flexibility: Port Kembla / South Coast, NSW This is a 100% site-based role (early starts required).
Hourly Pay: Up to $110 an hour including super
Start Date: ASAP
Role Details:
- Provide hands-on Health, Safety & Environment leadership across a complex, contractor-heavy construction environment.
- Lead HS&E governance, compliance, and assurance across high-risk civil and infrastructure works.
- Deliver and manage site inductions (early starts from approx. 6-7am).
- Review, assess, and approve HS&E documentation including SWMS, JSEAs, high-risk construction documentation, and contractor safety submissions.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and assurance activities.
- Partner closely with construction, engineering, and project controls teams to proactively manage risk.
- Support incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and HS&E performance reporting.
- Monitor application of governance systems and identify improvement opportunities.
- Mentor and support other HS&E professionals and contractors to uplift safety capability and culture.
- Maintain a strong, visible site presence and engage daily with contractors and site leadership.
Required Skills and Experience (Non-Negotiable):
- Strong construction background, ideally civil, heavy civil, infrastructure, industrial or mining.
- 7+ years’ experience in senior, hands-on HS&E / WHS roles (not junior or purely advisory).
- Formal WHS qualification – Cert IV minimum (Diploma or Graduate Diploma highly regarded).
- Proven experience across broader WHS governance, not limited to construction only.
- 100% site-based experience and genuinely comfortable working on site full-time.
- Experience working on large, long-term projects with multiple contractors.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and its practical application.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and approving:
- SWMS
- JSEAs
- High-risk construction documentation
- Contractor safety submissions
- Hands-on experience with:
- Audits and inspections
- Incident investigation and reporting
- HS&E metrics, KPIs, and reporting
- Comfortable working in early-start environments (6-7am site starts).
Highly Desirable Experience:
- Major infrastructure programs (ports, steelworks, industrial facilities, transport, heavy civils).
- Experience engaging with regulators (SafeWork, EPA).
- Exposure to environmental compliance, including EMPs, approvals, and environmental controls.
- Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced HS&E professionals.
- Strong background working in contractor-heavy environments.
- Proven stakeholder management across:
- Construction teams
- Project controls
- Engineering
- Client-side leadership
