Head of Product Development - Cosmetics

Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Product Development to lead the technical development of innovative beauty products across cosmetics, skincare and related categories. You’ll oversee products from concept through prototype and commercialisation, while leading global manufacturer relationships and developing a team of Product Developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical product development across multiple beauty brands
  • Translate concepts into scalable, commercially viable products delivered at speed and to cost
  • Oversee formulation development, scale-up, prototype evaluation and technical decision-making
  • Own relationships with global manufacturers, laboratories and technical partners
  • Select and manage manufacturing partners across development projects
  • Partner with R&D, Packaging, Regulatory, Quality, Commercial and Supply Chain teams
  • Manage development budgets, cost targets and technical performance
  • Lead, mentor and develop Product Developers

Key Requirements

  • 10+ years’ product development or technical leadership experience within beauty or FMCG
  • Deep expertise across formulation, scale-up and manufacturer management
  • Strong beauty experience, ideally across colour cosmetics and/or skincare
  • Proven experience developing products with global contract manufacturers
  • Strong global supplier network and negotiation capability
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to balance innovation, quality, speed, cost and margin
  • Demonstrated people leadership and technical decision-making capability

Highly Regarded

  • Qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science or a related discipline
  • Multi-brand product development experience
  • Established global beauty manufacturing network
  • Experience developing high-volume, fast-to-market beauty products
  • Flexibility for interstate and international travel
