Senior Front-End Designer and Developer

  • 12-month contract with two potential 12-month extensions
    * Canberra-based hybrid working arrangements
    * Must be able to obtain an NV1 security clearance

Position Overview

An opportunity is available for a Senior Front-End Designer and Developer to support the ongoing development and enhancement of high-priority government digital platforms. Working within a dedicated technical delivery team, you will develop modern, user-focused interfaces and contribute to the delivery of a new external-facing portal. The role combines hands-on development, UI/UX design and system integration to improve the experience of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Duties

  • Design, develop, maintain and enhance front-end system components and interfaces.
  • Support the delivery of a new external-facing digital portal.
  • Develop user-facing components in line with business requirements and project priorities.
  • Improve existing application screens, usability and legacy designs.
  • Undertake software design, coding, peer reviews and testing.
  • Deliver interface upgrades, new features and system capabilities.
  • Integrate front-end applications with APIs and third-party software products.
  • Contribute to business-as-usual maintenance and broader digital improvement projects.
  • Work collaboratively within Agile or waterfall ICT project teams.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in a related ICT field.
  • Strong front-end development experience using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern UI/UX design principles and their practical implementation.
  • Experience supporting or developing user-facing components within complex application environments.
  • Experience working with Java and JEE frameworks, Kubernetes, Oracle, Unix and Windows environments.
  • Strong understanding of API interactions and system integration.
  • Experience integrating commercial or government off-the-shelf software products.
  • Experience working within or leading ICT teams using Agile or waterfall delivery methodologies.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance.
