
EL1 UX/UI Designers
The opportunity
Our client is a community focused federal government agency. They have an exciting opportunity available for multiple UX/UI Designers with a strong background in user-centered and accessible design, with experience creating responsive, intuitive digital interfaces.
12-month initial Labour Hire contracts with further 12-month extensions offering open market hourly rates.
This is a hybrid position offering 2 days working from home, with the remaining 3 on site. 37.5-hour work weeks. These roles will be based in Geelong.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Gather and evaluate user requirements, in collaboration with product and business owners.
- Conduct business, provider and participant engagement activities to maximise opportunities to codesign the requirements and outcome of each project. This includes changes to processes, systems, people and information.
- Illustrate concepts using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps.
- Design wireframes and prototypes both low and high fidelity (mobile and web).
- User research including usability testing.
- Facilitate co-design workshops to generate and iterate ideas with various stakeholders
- Capture and analysis of data related requirements in collaboration with business analysts.
- Achieve agreement and the formal sign-off of requirements by stakeholders and governance groups as required.
- Influence project documentation to support the UI/UX requirements definition, e.g. Requirements
- specifications, process maps, service design artefacts, functional and non-functional requirements,
- change management implications, data and reporting considerations.
- Produce deliverables in accordance with project schedules.
About you
- Proven UI/UX Design Experience Demonstrated experience designing intuitive, accessible, and engaging user interfaces across system platforms.
- Proficiency in Design Tools Expertise in tools such as Figma, Sketch or similar with the ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
- User-Centered Design Approach Strong understanding of use-centered design principles including user research, user persons, journey mapping and usability testing.
- Collaborative Mindset Experience working with cross-functional teams including developers, product owners, and stakeholders to deliver design solutions.
- Communication Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and rationale.
- Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking Ability to translate complex problems into elegant, user-friendly design solutions backed by research and data.
Desirable criteria
- Government or Public Sector Experience Understanding of digital service standards, policy contexts, and accessibility obligations relevant to Commonwealth agencies (i.e. WCAG mcompliance).
- Experience with Design Systems Ability to apply and contribute to design systems to ensure consistent, scalable and accessible experiences across large CRM platforms.
- Service Design Exposure Familiarity with end-to end participant and provider journeys, and the ability to map or optime service experiences in complex, multi-channel environments.
