The Opportunity:

Our client is a large, purpose-driven Federal Government Agency seeking an EL1 Technical Security Risk Advisor to provide expert advice and leadership across physical and technical security risk, assurance and governance activities.

This role plays a key part in protecting people, property and information across a national footprint. You’ll lead security risk assessments, provide authoritative technical advice, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure security controls meet government frameworks and contemporary risk standards.

  • Australian Citizenship required (MANDATORY – Federal Government).
  • Initial contract through to 31 December 2026, with potential extension.
  • EL1 daily rate: $602.55 + Super.
  • Locations: Geelong or Richmond, VIC.
  • Hybrid working arrangements – 2/3 split.
  • Travel may be required.

About the role:

The EL1 Technical Security Risk Advisor works under broad direction to lead security risk assessments, audits and assurance activities across metropolitan, regional and corporate sites.

You will provide specialist technical advice on physical security systems, develop site security plans, maintain risk registers, and contribute to policy, assurance and continuous improvement activities. The role requires sound judgement, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to balance safety, accessibility and operational requirements.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and delivering Security Risk Assessments, site audits and physical security reviews
  • Identifying threats, vulnerabilities and control gaps, and providing risk-based recommendations
  • Developing and maintaining Site Security Plans and a national site risk register
  • Providing technical advice on access control, CCTV, alarms, duress systems and related infrastructure
  • Supporting testing, assurance and certification of security controls against government frameworks
  • Preparing clear written reports and assurance documentation
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders and external security providers to support delivery outcomes

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in physical, technical or protective security roles
  • Experience conducting security risk assessments and audits aligned to government or industry frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of electronic security systems and associated infrastructure
  • Ability to lead complex work, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes under limited direction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing assurance reports

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience developing security plans, risk documentation or operational procedures
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as PSPF, ISO 31000 or related standards
  • Experience working in government or other regulated environments
