EL1 Senior Site Reliability Engineer

The opportunity:
Our highly valued client is a federal government agency. They are seeking an EL1 level Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join a national team in a leadership position managing system availability, performance, capacity and fault-tolerance.

  • Richmond or Geelong location plus hybrid work-from-home
  • 12 month initial contract + 12 month extension, rates fully negotiable
  • Role only open to Australian Citizens – Federal government client

The role:
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, your duties will include:

  • End to end ownership of site reliability within the product team
  • Identification of areas of improvement in both application and infrastructure layers
  • Implementation of key metrics and observability
  • Preventative approach to platform stability rather than reactive.
  • Plan and implement automation to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention
  • Collaborate across technical teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues
  • Participate in the design and architecture of reliable and scalable systems
  • Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and implement preventive measures
  • Write and maintain incident response plans and product standard operating procedures
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve systems

Skills and experience:
To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Senior or Principal level experience as a Site Reliability Engineer
  • Extensive hands-on experience building infrastructure and software systems within AWS.
  • Proficiency in automating daily processes
  • Experience with containerization runtimes and platforms such as Containerd and Kubernetes
  • Experience with configuring and using monitoring and observability platforms and frameworks such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and Open Telemetry
  • Experience in configuring mobile application monitoring using Dynatrace, Firebase, and Crashlytics
  • Experience using Git, Terraform, Helm, Cloudflare (or equivalent)
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and service mesh technologies.
  • Experience using AWS services such as CloudWatch, RDS, EKS, S3, EC2, VPC, Route53, PrivateLink, TransitGateway, EFS, IAM, and CloudTrail
  • Experience using Typescript or Golang would be advantageous
