The opportunity:
Our highly valued client is a federal government agency. They are seeking an EL1 Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Technology Lead to architect, implement, and optimize integrated participant engagement solutions spanning Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud, and Salesforce Sales/Service Cloud.

  • Richmond location plus hybrid work-from-home
  • 12 month initial contract + 12 month extension, rates fully negotiable
  • Role only open to Australian Citizens – Federal government role

The role:
As a EL1 Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Technology Lead, your duties will include:

  • Technical Leadership & Cross-Cloud Integration – Lead end-to-end implementations and ongoing optimization of Salesforce Marketing Cloud, with direct integrations to Salesforce Data Cloud (CDP) and Sales/Service Cloud
  • Design, document, and maintain scalable technical architectures-including integration flows using APIs, ETL/middleware (e.g., MuleSoft, Tibco), and Data Cloud connectors-to ensure seamless, secure data movement across systems and high-volume operational SLAs.
  • Drive platform modernization by adopting new Salesforce innovations, including Marketing Cloud Personalization (Einstein), Journey Builder, and Data Cloud features that leverage AI/ML for segmentation and analytics.
  • Solution Design & Data Strategy – Facilitate discovery workshops with business, data, and technology stakeholders to gather requirements and develop comprehensive solution designs for marketing automation, engagement, and customer data integration.
  • Architect data models and governance strategies in Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud, enabling robust segmentation, dynamic content personalization, behavioural analytics, and compliance with data privacy requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Oversee A/B testing frameworks, advanced journey orchestration, and the utilization of transactional, demographic, and behavioural data originating from Sales/Service Cloud for more effective customer communications
  • Stakeholder Collaboration, Governance & Enablement – Lead cross-functional forums and serve as a technical advisor to Marketing, ICT, Data, Security, and external vendor teams to align cross-cloud capabilities with enterprise objectives.
  • Build technical documentation, best practice playbooks, and reusable assets; mentor internal teams in AMPscript, SQL, HTML/CSS, APIs, and Data Cloud usage.
  • Champion strong data governance across Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud, and CRM environments, ensuring strict adherence to enterprise data quality and WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
  • Platform Reliability, Compliance & Incident Management -Oversee the health, deliverability, and uptime of the omni-channel engagement stack-including sender domains, IP reputation, SSL/certificates, authentication, and endpoint management.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for critical incident management (e.g., P1/P2) impacting messaging/notifications, cross-cloud data synchronizations, or regulatory compliance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for optimization, risk mitigation, and preventive maintenance of the digital engagement ecosystem.
  • Thought Leadership & Innovation -Continuously scan the market for MarTech advances and spearhead adoption of next-generation Salesforce features to enhance business outcomes.
  • Contribute to organizational growth by developing internal training, delivering presentations to stakeholders, and publishing thought leadership around marketing technology, data unification, and customer experience transformation

Skills and experience:
To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Significant experience in technical leadership and solution architecture focused on Salesforce Marketing Cloud, with direct integrations to Salesforce Data Cloud and Sales/Service Cloud
  • Hands-on experience with Marketing Cloud Studios (Email/Mobile/Journey Builder), advanced scripting (AMPscript, SQL), CloudPages, and cross-cloud APIs (REST/SOAP)
  • Proven track record architecting and delivering data-driven campaigns, personalized journeys, and high-volume transactional messaging using Salesforce Data Cloud (CDP) and CRM systems
  • Robust understanding of data modelling, data management, and customer identity resolution across distributed Salesforce platforms
  • Demonstrated expertise in integration architecture-using ETL, middleware, or native connectors-and in migrating legacy data to Salesforce environments
  • Sound knowledge of compliance frameworks governing security, privacy, and accessibility (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, WCAG 2.0 AA.
  • Relevant certifications: Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant, Salesforce Data Cloud Consultant, Salesforce Administrator.
  • Additional certifications desirable – Salesforce Sales/Service Cloud Consultant, Platform Developer
  • Experience in public sector digital standards and working with messaging aggregators (SMS/email), ETL platforms (e.g., MuleSoft), or analytics solutions (e.g., Tableau CRM)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor teams and influence technology strategy
