Job Title: Product Owner – EL1 Equivalent
Location: Sydney CBD or Parramatta, NSW
Contract Duration: 9 months (with potential extension)
Security Requirement: Baseline clearance OR recent Federal Government experience (mandatory)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Product Owner (EL1 equivalent) to join a federal government digital initiative delivering a public-facing product. This role requires strong leadership in Agile delivery, with responsibility for owning the product vision and backlog, ensuring the delivery of value-aligned features that meet business and user needs.
Key Responsibilities

Own, prioritise, and manage requirements for one or more functional areas of the product.

Contribute to shaping the product vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

Refine and prioritise the backlog of features and user stories, ensuring they meet the ‘Definition of Ready’.

Collaborate closely with business subject matter experts, business analysts, and delivery teams to prepare user stories for development.

Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

Empower and enable delivery teams by making timely decisions, unblocking issues, and clarifying priorities.

Negotiate scope and priorities with delivery teams, ensuring consensus on ‘Definition of Done’ for features.

Act as the primary liaison between stakeholders and delivery teams, communicating progress, risks, and changes.

Complete all mandatory training and comply with entity policies.

Work standard business hours (7.5 hours per day) with mandatory breaks; out-of-hours work requires prior approval.
Essential Requirements

Proven experience as a Product Owner delivering digital products in an Agile environment.

Experience owning public-facing products involving complex data flows is highly desirable.

Strong backlog management skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands effectively.

Demonstrated ability to work closely with both technical and business teams.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Baseline security clearance OR recent Federal Government experience is mandatory.
Desirable Skills

Experience in survey or data capture applications.

Familiarity with the aged care or health sectors (preferred but not required).

Understanding of accessibility and usability principles for public-facing digital products.
Additional Information

The role is based in Sydney CBD or Parramatta with potential hybrid working arrangements.

Standard working hours are 7 hours 30 minutes per day with a 30-minute lunch break.

Weekend, public holiday, or stand-down period work requires prior written approval.

This is a 9-month contract with potential for extension based on project needs.
