We are seeking an experienced EL1 Policy Officer who will play a vital role in leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex public policy initiatives. This position demands a strategic thinker with the capacity to influence outcomes, particularly within First Nations contexts, and a drive to contribute significantly to government priorities.

About the Role
As the EL1 Policy Officer, you will spearhead significant policy initiatives, focusing on strategic alignment with government priorities and outcomes for First Nations communities. Your responsibilities will include assessing risks, synthesizing evidence to provide authoritative advice, and representing the department in high-level discussions. This role is essential in shaping government responses to emerging issues and challenges.

Key Responsibilities –

  • Lead development and evaluation of public policy initiatives, particularly in a First Nations context.
  • Provide well-reasoned policy advice to senior executives and government officials.
  • Identify emerging issues and devise innovative solutions to complex policy challenges.
  • Ensure policy alignments with broader governmental objectives and reform agendas.
  • Facilitate effective relationships with government, stakeholders, and First Nations communities.
  • Prepare high-quality materials, including ministerial briefs and strategic reports.
  • Manage and deliver policy projects on time and within competing priorities.
  • Navigate government decision-making processes effectively.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating complex public policies.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and familiarity with synthesizing diverse data and evidence.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in risk assessment and developing practical policy solutions.
  • Ability to lead policy projects and manage competing priorities efficiently.
  • Knowledge of governmental procedures and decision-making processes.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in public policy, law, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in policy development, particularly within a government context.
