
EL1 Lead Actuary
The opportunity
Our client is a community focused federal government agency. They have an exciting opportunity available for multiple EL1 Lead Actuarial Analysts to join the team.
12-month initial contract with opportunity for extension.
Competitive daily rates up to $1100 including superannuation (Dependent on experience – 5 years minimum), with the option to be based out of Richmond or Geelong.
Hybrid working environment, consisting of two days working from home, with the remaining 3 on site each week.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Providing statistical and actuarial advice.
- Oversight and management ofreporting, analysis and data management activities as required, including regular perfonnance monitoring.
- Designing actuarial, statistical and mathematical models to undertake analytical work that respond to business issues, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projects and cost benefit analyses.
- Undertaking ad hoc modelling requests and report production.
- Effectively communicating (verbally and in writing) and presenting the outcomes of work undertaken, tailored to context.
Essential criteria
- Proficiency in R or Python, with preference towards R, including: – Clean/transform/summarise large data sets (e.g. data.table, dplyr) – Functional programming practices – Train/evaluate/infer machine learning models (e.g. xgboost)
- Proficiency in SQL
- Some experience with version control systems, i.e. git
- Experience building statistical or machine learning models
- Experience leading a team / delegating tasks
- This position is within the professional job stream and the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics, with significant progress towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications. Only candidates with FIAA qualification and 7 to 15 years-experience will be considered.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with agile
- Package development in R (devtools, roxygen2)
- Dashboard development in R (shiny)
