EL1 Assistant Director Strategic Policy
Talent International is currently recruiting for an APEL1 Assistant Director Strategic Policy to work for one of our Federal Government clients based in any office locations in NSW. The position is a 6-month contract role with the possibility of extension. The role pays $602.55 per day + Super.
7.6 hours per day and 38 hours per week
About the Role
As the EL1 Assistant Director – Strategic Policy, you will play a key leadership role in driving policy reform, implementation, stakeholder engagement, and strategic decision-making. You will lead high-performing teams and provide expert advice in a complex and evolving policy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and implementation of reform projects aligned with broader agency reform priorities.
- Analyse complex policy issues and develop high-quality recommendations for implementation.
- Influence and negotiate practical policy solutions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the development of policy papers, briefing materials, corporate documents, and strategic advice.
- Collect, interpret, and analyse data to inform decision-making and recommendations.
- Build, manage, and maintain productive stakeholder relationships.
- Design and lead consultation and engagement activities.
- Assess risks and apply sound judgement in a complex and changing environment.
- Contribute to branch leadership and foster a positive, high-performing team culture.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in strategic policy development and implementation.
- Proven experience leading teams within the public sector to deliver policy, reform, projects, or programs.
- Strong understanding and experience working with legislation.
- Experience in strategic commissioning.
- Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly for government audiences.
- Strong leadership capability in policy and reform environments.
- Sound governance, risk management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and business needs.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of the disability sector.
- Understanding of Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).
- Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
