Enterprise Java (Spring Boot / J2EE) | Agile & CI/CD Delivery | Linux (RHEL) | Automation & Scalable Agile Solutions

  • Location: ACT/ NSW (Hybrid)
  • Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance (must be eligible to obtain)
  • Contract Length: 12 months + 2 *12 months extensions (Based on the discretion of the Department)

We are seeking an experienced ‘DevOps Software Engineer’ to join a high-performing agile team, supporting the delivery of modern, scalable solutions. This role is central to enabling continuous improvement, automation, and robust application delivery while fostering collaboration with developers, product owners, and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Java applications on Linux platforms in alignment with organisational strategy and project plans.
  • Actively contribute to Agile ceremonies, artefacts, and developer communities of practice.
  • Collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, infrastructure, and service delivery teams to deliver high-quality business solutions.
  • Apply sustainable engineering practices including Domain Driven Design, Test Driven Development, pairing, code reviews, and security-first thinking.
  • Enhance and maintain automated testing suites with a focus on accessibility, performance, and compliance with open standards.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer activities including SOPs, documentation, and technical specifications.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and supporting Spring Boot or J2EE applications in Linux environments.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Lean practices, with the ability to operate efficiently and deliver results in dynamic environments.

Proficiency across the following:

  • Java (Spring Boot 3 / Spring 6)
  • SOAP / REST services and Service-Oriented Architecture
  • Frontend frameworks: Bootstrap, Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery
  • Build tools (Maven), IDEs (IntelliJ)
  • Automated testing and frameworks (JUnit, TestNG, TDD strategies)
  • Source control tools (GitHub)

Desirable skills & expertise:

  • Frontend: React.js, ECMAScript 6
  • Platforms: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • CI/CD tools: Jenkins
  • Quality and code review: SonarQube
  • Databases: Oracle, SQL Developer, Toad
  • Event streaming: Apache Kafka
  • Agile toolsets: JIRA, Confluence
