Position Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a high-profile government technology program delivering secure, cloud-based capabilities.
The role will work closely with infrastructure, development and sustainment teams to design, implement and maintain secure Microsoft Azure environments. You will have a strong focus on cloud automation, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code and improving the security posture of critical platforms.
This is a hands-on technical position suited to someone who enjoys working across complex data and analytics environments, solving technical challenges and contributing to secure, reliable and scalable cloud services. The role is primarily Canberra-based, with up to two days per week remote work potentially negotiable after six months.
Key Duties

- Design and implement Azure infrastructure solutions to support application migration from on-premises environments.
- Develop automated solutions for deploying cloud infrastructure and applications.
- Design, implement and maintain the security of Azure cloud platforms and services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation.
- Use Azure DevOps to automate security and deployment processes.
- Support Java applications operating within Linux environments.
- Automate operational processes and develop self-service capabilities.
- Implement and manage Azure RBAC, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy and administrator protection strategies.
- Manage vulnerability scanning tools and assist with security incident response when required.
- Monitor cloud service health, utilisation and performance using cloud-native tools.
- Work with architects, administrators and developers to deliver solutions meeting security and compliance requirements.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to feature planning, prioritisation and delivery.
- Lead and coordinate cloud development activities across internal and external technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing and skills transfer across the team.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 5 years’ experience using DevOps within complex data and analytics platforms.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience facilitating business processes to deliver new capabilities, including system design, development, modelling, governance and documentation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and DevSecOps.
- Strong hands-on Linux administration experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining IaC and automation using Ansible, PowerShell, Terraform and/or YAML.
- Experience designing and securing Azure cloud environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Previous hands-on web application development experience will be highly regarded.
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience will also be advantageous.
- Must hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, an NV1 security clearance and successfully complete the required organisational suitability assessment prior to commencement.
