DevOps Engineer - APS6

Our client is a large values-focused Federal Government Agency delivering digital platform solutions to support critical public services.

They are seeking an APS6 DevOps Engineer to support the design, build and optimisation of digital platform applications, APIs, dashboards and CI/CD processes. This role will suit someone with strong hands-on development experience across Node.js, modern front-end frameworks, APIs and DevOps practices.

ROLE DETAILS
Location: Melbourne VIC / Geelong VIC
Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension option
Working arrangement: Hybrid, 2-3 days per week in office
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Security: Must be able to obtain Baseline clearance
Eligibility: Australian Citizen only

Close: Friday 9 July 2026

ABOUT THE ROLE:
You will support DevOps and application delivery activities across digital platforms, including developing APIs, maintaining dashboards, supporting CI/CD processes, troubleshooting technical issues, and building tools/scripts that reduce development effort.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement and maintain RESTful APIs to support application functionality.
  • Develop and maintain real-time dashboards to monitor application performance and user metrics.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and support resolution of technical issues across iterations.
  • Build applications and scripts to reduce manual development tasks.
  • Integrate APIs with ALM tools such as GitLab, Jira and Microsoft Teams.
  • Support CI/CD processes including design, build, testing, deployment and automation.
  • Contribute to DevOps initiatives to ensure systems are operating efficiently and reliably.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3+ years’ experience developing full stack applications using Node.js.
  • Experience with frameworks such as React, Vue and/or Next.js.
  • Demonstrated experience with Jira, VSCode and DevOps practices.
  • Experience implementing APIs and integrating with ALM tools such as GitLab, Jira and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience developing dashboards for performance/user metrics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders.
  • GitLab pipeline creation/maintenance, accessible design/development experience, and CI/CD automation involving AI agents.
