Position Description – Data Operations Lead

The Data Operations Lead will provide leadership and operational oversight of an enterprise data environment, working within a well-regarded consultancy. The role is responsible for leading and supporting a team of 10 data professionals, ensuring that services are delivered efficiently, securely, and in alignment with ITIL best practices.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in AWS and Databricks, combined with proven operational management experience, to maintain high levels of service availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of 10 data engineers and consultants.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of enterprise data platforms across AWS and Databricks.
  • Implement and enforce operational standards, governance, and service management processes aligned with ITIL certification.
  • Monitor and optimise data platform performance, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Coordinate incident, problem, and change management activities to minimise business impact.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement across operational processes and data service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Provide reporting and insights on service performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Stable and secure enterprise data environment with minimal downtime.
  • Adherence to ITIL processes and compliance with operational governance standards.
  • Consistent delivery of high-quality support services to stakeholders.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

  • Proven experience in leading data operations teams within an enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud services and Databricks.
  • ITIL certification (mandatory).
  • Experience managing incidents, problems, changes, and service requests in line with ITIL.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance operational priorities with strategic improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.

Desirable:

  • Consultancy or professional services experience.
  • Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with other cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) or modern data tools.
