This role plays a central role in establishing and promoting best practice data governance. It also oversees the implementation of the organisation’s Data Governance Framework, which will be developed in alignment with contemporary best practices adopted by Commonwealth agencies and leading statistical bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development, implementation and ongoing oversight of the organisation’s Data Governance Framework, working closely with the VDS Program Team.
- Provide leadership in support efforts to ensure the ongoing development and enhancement of all data assets.
- Guide and support Team Leaders and Branch Managers across the company to maintain high quality data management, storage, extraction and utilisation strategies.
- Provide advice to and develop strong relationships with State, Territory, Commonwealth and industry bodies data managers, to facilitate a strengthened national sector data architecture.
- Provide training and guidance on data responsibilities and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles
- Understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBoK, ISO 8000, ISO 38505)
- Knowledge of privacy and data protection legislation in Australia
- Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency with data governance tools or platforms (e.g., data catalogues, quality monitoring)
- Certification in data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) or relevant tertiary qualification
