Cyber Security Engineer / Analyst | Cyber Operations – Secure Infrastructure Delivery

Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid)

Clearance: NV1 Security Clearance (Mandatory)

Contract Length: 12 months + 2 * (12 months extensions)

We are seeking a skilled Cyber Security Engineer / Analyst to support cyber operations within a large-scale federal environment. This role combines engineering and analyst expertise to strengthen cyber security posture, deliver detection use cases, and lead response efforts across a complex hybrid cloud ecosystem. You will work closely with other cyber specialists to maintain system integrity, monitor activity, and support secure network operations across global platforms.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with log ingestion and develop use cases for newly integrated systems
  • Monitor and improve the performance of cyber security systems
  • Create and maintain operational playbooks to support standardised workflows
  • Analyse event logs to detect anomalous activity and develop recommendations
  • Support the development of countermeasures to prevent future incidents
  • Lead incident response and remediation activities
  • Contribute to threat hunting across a hybrid environment

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Cyber Security Analyst and/or Engineer role
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining Splunk infrastructure or similar platforms
  • Understanding of log ingestion from Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments
  • Experience designing, implementing, and testing detection use cases
  • Collaborative mindset with strong knowledge-sharing capability
  • Excellent technical documentation and written communication skills

Desirable Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Hands-on experience using Splunk SOAR to build playbooks
  • Knowledge of Splunk Risk Based Alerting (RBA)
  • Tertiary qualifications or certifications in Microsoft or Splunk technologies
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, or GCIA
