You will play a key role in supporting business decision-making, strengthening governance frameworks, managing legal risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

This position would suit an ambitious lawyer looking to further develop their career within an in-house environment while gaining exposure to corporate governance, regulatory affairs, risk management and commercial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Commercial Support

  • Identify legal and commercial risks and provide practical solutions aligned to business objectives.
  • Support dispute resolution, complaints, investigations and external legal matters.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide legal support throughout project and operational lifecycles.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Support the ongoing development and enhancement of governance, risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Conduct risk assessments and assist with the implementation of remediation activities.
  • Prepare governance documentation, compliance reporting and risk reporting for management and relevant committees.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and provide advice regarding business impacts and compliance obligations.
  • Ensure business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and governance requirements.
  • Automate processes and develop insights that identify opportunities for future business growth, efficiencies and critical redirection.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders across the business.
  • Deliver clear, practical and commercially relevant advice to non-legal audiences.
  • Support training and awareness initiatives relating to legal, risk, governance and compliance matters.
  • Contribute to strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a proactive and solutions-focused legal professional who enjoys working closely with stakeholders and influencing business outcomes.

You will possess:

  • A law degree and eligibility to hold a current Australian practising certificate.
  • Approximately 2-5 years’ post-qualification experience gained within private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
  • Strong experience in commercial contracts, corporate advisory and legal risk management.
  • Exposure to governance, compliance, regulatory affairs or risk management activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A strong business partnering mindset, with the ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive commercially sound outcomes and add value beyond traditional legal support.
  • The ability to interpret complex legal issues and translate them into practical business advice.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Highly Regarded Experience

Experience gained within one of the following sectors will be highly regarded:

  • Insurance
