Talent International is currently recruiting for a Contract Manager to work for the NSW Government based in Sydney. The position is a 9-month contract role with the possibility of being extended and pays between $700 to $900 per day + Super.

8 hours a day / 40 hours a week

Key accountabilities and deliverables of the role

The primary purpose of the role is to lead contract management services within the project controls team from the point of supplier onboarding (following procurement) through to supplier offboarding. This includes receipting of supplier invoices and monthly reports, completion of preliminary assurance, coordinating review and endorsement from contract managers, maintaining of the contract dashboard, coordinating of contractor performance reviews, management of variations, issue resolution and contractor offboarding.

  • Liaise with Corporate Procurement to ensure that robust contract management procedures are developed in accordance with NSW Government guidelines and that all nominated controls are effectively implemented across all project suppliers.
  • Undertake the day-to-day management of contracts with service providers ensuring that the services procured are consistent with government priorities and client’s strategic directions, deliver high-quality, integrated, customer-oriented services and provide value for money
  • Provide accurate, expert and timely advice, information, reports and Briefing Notes to the Contract Managers and Stream Leads on any contractual matters, contractual obligations and/or contractual disputes to highlight any trends, forecasts or risks that require management intervention and/or action and to recommend strategic solutions
  • Identify areas of non-compliance, default or sub-optimal performance by suppliers, including taking and/or recommending corrective action to rectify non-compliance, default or sub-optimal performance
  • Develop and implement trend analysis and performance indicators on service provision, reliability and quality using analytical methods to inform and provide improvement opportunities
  • Identify evidence-based root causes of under-performance, including system failures to support the development of solution strategies
  • Maintain the contract management dashboard to provide an accurate understanding of current contract value, spend to date and forecast exhaustion so and ensure early identification of potential service disruption to the project so that suitable actions are taken

Key Challenges of the role:

  • Managing time, prioritising issues and completing time-dependent activities within a large-scale project. Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with project performance specialist resources, project teams and the wider client community
  • Proactively keep abreast of potential issues, formulate advice and recommendations based on evidence, expertise, options and implications.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement philosophy is applied in maintaining and coordinating budget and cost management systems, to ensure a single source of truth for each element, while encouraging innovation and best practice in cost controls.
  • Driving strong governance, improvements in supplier performance, value for money, and avoidance of service disruption to the project

Qualifications required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience

Essential skills and Experience:

  • Proven track record in contract management in an integrated project controls team in a complex infrastructure project over the entire project lifecycle and knowledge of all project management disciplines
  • Understanding of the contract management, finance, budgeting and reporting expectations of NSW Government
  • Demonstrated extensive experience of contract management or equivalent management responsibility in a high-risk environment and understanding of risk management strategies and practice.
