Commercial and Procurement Specialist
About the Role
A government organisation is seeking an experienced Commercial and Procurement Specialist to support the Technology Service Delivery Program. This position plays a critical role in providing expert commercial, procurement, and contract management support for a complex national technology transformation program.
You will oversee key supplier relationships, manage commercial risks, develop contract management plans, and ensure activities align with Commonwealth Procurement Rules and value-for-money principles. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, strategic negotiation, and commercial acumen to deliver successful program outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic commercial and procurement advice across large-scale technology initiatives.
- Manage supplier performance and contractual compliance to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate emerging commercial risks and issues.
- Draft, negotiate, and implement contract amendments and change documentation.
- Lead procurement and contract management activities in accordance with policy and governance requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, internal stakeholders, and legal and finance teams.
- Support governance forums and contribute to commercial reporting and decision-making.
Skills & Experience
- 12+ years’ experience in complex contract management and supplier performance within major programs.
- Strong understanding of Commonwealth Procurement Rules and best practice commercial models.
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to lead negotiations, manage vendor performance, and drive commercial value.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- High attention to detail and analytical capability to assess cost and performance data.
- Must be an Australian Citizen and eligible for a Baseline Security Clearance.
Desirable
- CIPS or equivalent contract management qualification.
- Experience in government or regulated infrastructure sectors.
