Cloud SME – AWS & Azure

Location: Sydney or Newcastle, NSW
Salary: Up to $150,000 incl. super

About the Role

We’re looking for a Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep experience across AWS and Azure to join a high-performing technology team. This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll provide technical leadership, design cloud solutions, and guide teams across complex, enterprise-scale environments.

You’ll work across cloud architecture, DevOps, Kubernetes, monitoring, automation, and compliance, while also contributing to solution design and RFP responses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Cloud SME across AWS and Azure platforms
  • Design, implement, and support enterprise cloud architectures
  • Provide technical leadership to teams of 6-10 engineers
  • Drive CI/CD, DevOps, and Kubernetes best practices
  • Build and integrate monitoring and observability solutions with a single-pane-of-glass view
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation and architecture artefacts
  • Support automation, reliability, and performance optimisation initiatives
  • Participate in solution design and RFPs
  • Ensure environments align with security and compliance standards

AWS Requirements

  • 8+ years’ experience supporting enterprise AWS environments
  • 1-2 years’ hands-on experience with Amazon EKS, Kubernetes & CI/CD
  • Strong experience with DevOps tooling and automation (2-3 years)
  • Expertise with AWS monitoring solutions (CloudWatch, Container Insights, Application Insights)
  • Experience building integrated dashboards and observability platforms
  • Exposure to APM tools such as AppDynamics, New Relic (highly desirable)
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, SOC2, ISO 27001)
  • Mandatory AWS Certifications:
    • AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
    • Additional DevOps / Developer / Operations certifications highly regarded

Azure Requirements

  • 8+ years’ experience supporting enterprise Azure environments
  • 1-2 years’ experience with Azure AKS, Kubernetes & Docker
  • Strong experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • Expertise with Azure monitoring and automation solutions
  • Experience integrating SaaS-based and cloud monitoring platforms
  • Ability to lead and mentor technical teams
  • Mandatory Azure Certifications:
    • AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect Expert)
    • AZ-500 (Azure Security Engineer)
    • AZ-700 (Azure Network Engineer)
