Cloud Data Engineer
- Strong AWS data engineering experience including Spark, Python/Scala/Java, and modern data lake technologies
- 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options
- Canberra location
- Must hold a minimum Baseline security clearance
Our Client
Our Federal Government client is Australia’s principle revenue collection agency, primarily responsible for administering the federal taxation system and superannuation legislation, as well as managing and delivering a range of Australian government payment and loan schemes.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to support the delivery of secure, scalable data platforms within a large and complex cloud ecosystem. This role sits within a multidisciplinary technical team responsible for building and operating AWS-based data pipelines that support critical legislative and digital transformation initiatives.
Your duties will include:
- Designing and delivering scalable AWS-based data platforms and pipelines that meet architectural and governance standards
- Building and optimising batch and streaming data pipelines using AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Kinesis, Redshift, and Athena
- Applying cloud security best practices including IAM, encryption, network design, and logging
- Monitoring, supporting, and troubleshooting cloud data solutions to ensure reliability and service continuity
- Collaborating with delivery teams, security specialists, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business outcomes
- Contributing to Agile delivery activities including sprint planning, estimation, and continuous improvement
Skills and Experience we are looking for:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering production data solutions on AWS
- Strong programming experience with Python, Java (Maven), or Scala
- Hands-on expertise with Apache Spark and modern data processing frameworks
- Experience designing end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion through to curated outputs
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or AWS CDK, along with CI/CD and version control practices
- Knowledge of data lake or lakehouse architectures, including formats such as Parquet, Delta Lake, or Apache Iceberg
