This is an opportunity to join a niche, high-performing Applied HVAC team that services large-scale industrial and commercial chillers across Victoria and Tasmania. You’ll work with a down-to-earth leadership team who understand the job from the ground up and give technicians autonomy, flexibility, and ongoing development opportunities.

About the Role

As a Service Technician – Applied (Chillers), you’ll be responsible for routine maintenance, commissioning, diagnostics, breakdown service, and technical repairs on industrial/commercial chiller systems. You’ll work across a wide range of sites, including hospitals, airports, data centres, manufacturing facilities and other large commercial environments.

This role suits a technician who can work independently, communicate clearly with customers, and take ownership of service quality and safety.

  • Conduct routine maintenance, commissioning, testing, and repairs on large commercial/industrial chillers
  • Diagnose faults, analyse performance issues, and implement effective solutions
  • Perform site surveys, replacements, modifications, and preventative maintenance
  • Prepare for onsite work by assessing layouts, identifying risks, and organising tools/materials
  • Complete service reports, timesheets, and paperwork to a high standard
  • Liaise with Service Coordinators and customers to manage daily schedules and provide technical support
  • Explain service charges and work performed to customers in a clear, professional manner
  • Supervise apprentices where required
  • Maintain technical currency and uphold all safety, WHS, and quality requirements

What You’ll Bring

Must-Have

  • Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Trade qualification
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience working specifically on chillers
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and experience working independently
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to plan your workload and set priorities effectively

Highly Regarded

  • OEM background
  • Experience in both chillers and controls
  • Experience working on large-tonnage industrial equipment
  • Exposure to complex commercial/industrial sites (hospitals, data centres, etc.)

Why Join?

  • Join a small, specialised national team with strong growth and increasing demand
  • Supportive leadership with genuine care for team culture-no tolerance for toxicity
  • Clear career pathways: Technician → Senior Technician → Field Supervisor → Service Manager (and beyond)
  • Large, well-performing organisation with stability, investment, and new divisions being built (including Controls)
  • Autonomy over your schedule – go direct to site, manage your day, and use digital reporting tools
  • Majority of work within 100km of Melbourne
  • Mix of maintenance, service, commissioning, warranty work, and quoted works
  • Paid overtime, after-hours allowance, and double-time callouts (minimum 4 hours)
  • Not an excessive overtime environment – mostly standard business hours
  • Strong support from Service Coordinators and senior technical leaders

Salary & Conditions

  • $40-$60 per hour + super (rate dependent on chiller experience)
  • 38-hour week + 2 hours paid weekly overtime
