Azure Systems Administrator

The Azure Systems Administrator plans, coordinates and delivers specialised and expert technical systems analysis, design, development and maintenance functions to ensure the quality of applications. This may include enhancements of existing applications or the development or configuration of complex new systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver expert data analysis, design and modelling services for complex or business critical applications.
  • Ensure the quality of the Azure cloud environment and enhancement by:
  • Planning, coordinating and conducting specialist development tasks within agreed timeframes.
  • Providing expert specialist advice in relation to analysis, design and security access, testing, writing of user procedures or other documentation.
  • Leading and performing high-level systems analysis and operational solution design for complex and critical applications.
  • Performing quality reviews of specifications and programming to ensure that all work conforms to IS&T standards and methodologies.
  • Initiating engagement with, and involving the users in the development of, new or enhances systems and applications for the full lifecycle.
  • Working closely with integration specialists to ensure robust systems services include appropriate integration of applications across supported applications.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and partners to provide high level advice and analysis in relation to the structure of systems.
  • Resolve complex and critical incidents and outages including diagnosing issues and coordinating and implementing workarounds that may impact service wide operations.
  • Coordinate, administer and take responsibility for maintaining existing applications and associated services throughout their life by:
  • Working closely with Application Support Analysts to maintain the quality and availability of applications and undertaking production support activities.
  • Rectifying complex and critical system and applications failures as they occur.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation of the systems and interfaces used.
  • Planning, coordinating and undertaking complex system maintenance, administration and configuration activities.
  • Recommending and developing solutions to support complex business problems/initiatives using existing applications.
  • Undertaking high level analysis and identifying, implementing and coordinating application improvements, including upgrades and enhancements to improve application warranty and utility.
  • Providing expertise into the adoption of Azure Cloud functionality, improvement and maintenance of an appropriate application support knowledge base.
  • Significantly contribute to the success of by:
  • Providing expert and high level advice in relation to project impact on existing applications and solutions, particularly technical dependencies and current operating environments.
  • Leading, developing and planning application solution requirements through the interpretation of functional and non-functional requirements and recommend solution options.
  • Participating in the design, development and implementation of new applications and solutions.
  • Preparing, coordinating and/or executing testing to support changes.
  • Working closely with the Quality and Assurance Branch and project teams to ensure successful operational handover of projects.
  • Vendor liaison:
  • Engaging with vendors as required to address complex and critical system issues and progress enhancements.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior members of the team.
  • Continuous improvement:
  • Contribute to a service oriented culture.
  • Align service and practice to industry standard SDLC and ITIL methodologies
  • Regularly review application support processes and plan, develop and implement strategic improvements that improve customer experience or the warranty and utility of applications.
  • Actively seek out areas for improvement and proactively engage in solution activities.
  • Improve work instructions, processes and knowledge management.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Azure cloud services and system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience working on large and complex IT projects involving business transformation and technical implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), RBAC, and IAM
  • Experience with Azure networking (VNets, NSGs, VPNs, VWANs, Azure Firewall, ExpressRoute)
  • Experience with Azure Policy
  • Experience with Private Endpoints and Private DNS Configuration
  • Experience with API Management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, One Lake, Data Factory and Dataverse
  • Experience with Azure Portal, ARM templates, Terraform and Bicep
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills
  • Ability to document procedures and configurations clearly
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working in ITIL or similar service management frameworks
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide technical guidance when required.
  • Experience in maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including managing expectations and resolving conflicts.
  • Familiarity with application development tools, version control systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
