Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineer
- Permanent Full-Time | Package between $190k – $220k
- Canberra | On-site requirements
- Minimum NV1 security clearance required
Take your AI/ML experience beyond traditional model development and into a complex engineering environment where machine learning needs to work alongside real-world systems, hardware, data and operational requirements.
You’ll combine hands-on machine learning expertise with work across AI/ML requirements, policy and technical guidance, using complex datasets such as imagery, video, sensor data, telemetry, time-series and simulation data. Depending on your background, this could involve areas such as computer vision, sensor fusion, edge AI, autonomy and real-time processing.
The Role
As an AI / Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll bring both technical depth and an engineering mindset to the development and application of AI/ML within a secure, highly regulated environment.
Rather than sitting solely within software or data, you’ll work across systems, software, hardware, operations and test teams, helping shape how AI/ML is developed, governed and applied within future technical systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development and definition of AI/ML requirements
- Developing AI/ML policy and technical guidance to support the certification of future systems
- Providing AI/ML subject matter expertise across multidisciplinary engineering activities
- Working across systems, software, data, hardware, operations and test teams to support AI/ML integration
- Representing the organisation at relevant AI/ML conferences, working groups and technical forums
About You
You’ll bring strong hands-on machine learning engineering experience, along with the ability to apply that knowledge within complex technical environments where performance, validation and integration all matter.
We’re particularly interested in experience across:
- A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science (AI/ML) or similar
- Hands-on machine learning development using Python and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn or OpenCV
- Experience working with complex datasets such as imagery, video, sensor, telemetry, time-series, simulation or engineering data
- Strong knowledge of model development, validation, testing, deployment and performance monitoring
- Good software engineering practices across version control, code review, automated testing and documentation
- Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- A current NV1 security clearance
Experience across computer vision, sensor fusion, edge or embedded AI, autonomy, simulation, MLOps or real-time data processing would be particularly valuable.
Why Consider the Opportunity?
The work here extends well beyond building and deploying models. You’ll be involved in how AI/ML is integrated into complex systems, how models are tested and assured, and how requirements and policy are developed as the technology evolves.
There’s plenty of technical variety too, with potential to work across areas such as computer vision, sensor fusion, edge AI, autonomy, simulation, MLOps and real-time data processing, depending on your background.
There is also a range of employee benefits available, including the option to purchase additional leave and support for professional development and certifications.
