Our client is a Federal Government agency responsible for supporting Australians through nationally delivered services and assessment processes. The organisation works closely with participants, families and service providers to ensure decisions are evidence-based, consistent and person-centred.

About the Role

The APS6 Support Needs Assessor is responsible for conducting support needs assessments, analysing participant information and evidence, and preparing clear assessment reports to support decision-making. The role operates within a participant-centred environment and requires strong communication, assessment and judgement skills when engaging with participants, representatives and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct support needs assessments through participant interviews and information gathering
  • Analyse and synthesise participant information and supporting evidence
  • Prepare clear, accurate and evidence-based assessment reports
  • Apply policy, legislation and operational procedures to assessment activities
  • Communicate assessment processes and outcomes to participants and representatives
  • Identify and escalate complex, high-risk or sensitive matters appropriately
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to support planning and service delivery outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records using digital systems and assessment tools

Skills and Experience

  • Experience conducting assessments, interviews or participant-centred evaluations
  • Strong written communication skills, including report writing and documentation
  • Ability to analyse complex information and make evidence-based recommendations
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills with diverse audiences
  • Experience working within legislative, policy or compliance frameworks
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, culturally aware and person-centred practice

Qualifications

One of the following is highly desirable:

  • Allied Health qualification such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, Rehabilitation Counselling or Counselling
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Enrolled Nurse (EN), Education professional or Behaviour Support Practitioner
  • Experience administering support needs assessments or similar person-centred assessment frameworks
