About the role:

The APS6 Senior Media Officer will have a considerable level of public and media contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It is required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the Agency.

  • Working strategically to seek opportunities to promote the Scheme and the work of the Agency.
  • Contributing to a strategic and nationally consistent approach for the Agency and supporting media and communications approaches that leverage best practice.
  • Develop comprehensive media packages for TV, online, print, radio and social platforms.
  • Creating and delivering compelling media pitches.
  • Producing and contributing to media and other communications products including media releases and talking points.
  • Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop media plans to support announcements and media opportunities.
  • Contributing to strategies to improve channels and platforms including website, Ministerial and Executive briefings, event materials and social media.
  • Supporting the monitoring and identification of potential media risks.
  • Utilising reporting metrics to review the impact of media and communications approaches, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Managing and responding to media enquiries and working within an after-hours rotational on-call media roster.
  • Supporting the delivery of media engagement and communication activities.

Skills and experience required:

We strongly encourage your application if you have demonstrated the below skills and capabilities:

  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating media plans and public communication strategies aligned with organisational goals.
  • Ability to draft high-quality media releases, talking points, speeches, and digital content; strong stakeholder engagement with journalists and media outlets.
  • Experience managing media risks and reputational issues, including reactive communications in high-pressure or politically sensitive environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, government departments, and external media partners.
  • Experience managing communication across multiple channels including web, social, and traditional media platforms with appropriate tone and accessibility.
  • Strong understanding and employment experience within APS / Political environments.
  • Passionate about working within the disability sector and positively improving the lives of individuals and their families.
