About the Role
As an APS6 Actuary / Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in leading data analysis, modelling, and reporting to support the agency’s objectives. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, including actuarial monitoring, scheme forecasting, and policy development. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver insights that drive decision-making and improve outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage reporting, analysis, and data management activities.
- Extract, cleanse, and prepare data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy.
- Develop and update regular performance monitoring frameworks.
- Utilise statistical and mathematical modelling techniques for actuarial analyses.
- Design and implement models to address business challenges.
- Support statutory reporting requirements.
- Undertake ad hoc modelling requests and produce detailed reports.
- Communicate progress and outcomes effectively to stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in actuarial or data science roles, preferably in government policy development.
- Proficient in R or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
- Strong SQL or SAS programming skills.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and management.
- Familiarity with statistical modelling techniques and machine learning applications.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields.
- Progress towards Associate or Fellowship qualifications (for Actuaries).
Eligibility/Other Requirements
- Work Rights: Only Australian citizens can be considered for this role.
- Pre-employment Checks: May include reference checks, National Police Check, Worker Screening Checks, and Working with Children Check as required.
- Security Clearance: Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline clearance.
