APS6 Actuary / Data Scientist | ACT | 12-Month Contract

About the Role

As an APS6 Actuary / Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in leading data analysis, modelling, and reporting to support the agency’s objectives. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, including actuarial monitoring, scheme forecasting, and policy development. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver insights that drive decision-making and improve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage reporting, analysis, and data management activities.
  • Extract, cleanse, and prepare data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy.
  • Develop and update regular performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Utilise statistical and mathematical modelling techniques for actuarial analyses.
  • Design and implement models to address business challenges.
  • Support statutory reporting requirements.
  • Undertake ad hoc modelling requests and produce detailed reports.
  • Communicate progress and outcomes effectively to stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in actuarial or data science roles, preferably in government policy development.
  • Proficient in R or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Strong SQL or SAS programming skills.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Familiarity with statistical modelling techniques and machine learning applications.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields.
  • Progress towards Associate or Fellowship qualifications (for Actuaries).

  • Pre-employment Checks: May include reference checks, National Police Check, Worker Screening Checks, and Working with Children Check as required.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline clearance.
