The Opportunity:

Our client is a large, purpose-driven Federal Government Agency seeking an APS4 Finance Officer (General Stream) to support financial accounting and reporting activities within a high-volume finance function.

This role is well suited to someone early in their finance career who is looking to build hands-on experience in government financial operations, systems and reporting. You will work as part of a broader finance team, contributing to accurate financial data and supporting month-end and year-end processes.

  • Australian Citizenship required (MANDATORY – Federal Government).
  • Initial 3 month contract, with potential extension.
  • APS4 hourly rate of $43.82 + Super.
  • WFH Flexibility – Based in Richmond, VIC.

About the role:

The APS4 Finance Officer works within established policies, procedures and accounting frameworks to provide operational and administrative support across financial accounting and reporting activities.

You will apply foundational accounting knowledge, exercise sound judgement, and support the integrity of financial data while responding to enquiries and working with internal stakeholders. The role offers exposure to SAP and other financial systems in a structured APS environment.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting transaction processing to ensure financial data is accurate and complete
  • Extracting and analysing data from SAP and other financial systems to resolve enquiries
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end financial processes
  • Preparing accurate reports and financial documentation as required
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Working with internal stakeholders to support finance-related initiatives and projects

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest in working within a Finance or Financial Accounting function
  • Background studies in accounting, including completion or progress toward a Finance / Commerce Degree or Advanced Diploma
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles, reporting standards and general ledger concepts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-focused approach
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience supporting transaction processing in financial systems
  • Exposure to SAP or similar enterprise finance systems
  • Experience analysing financial data and preparing reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders in a structured environment
