Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Application Architects to play a key role in designing, delivering and evolving enterprise application solutions within a large and complex government technology environment. Working closely with business stakeholders, technical specialists and delivery teams, you will provide architectural leadership across the full solution lifecycle, ensuring applications are secure, scalable, maintainable and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to major application modernisation initiatives while influencing strategic technology outcomes across a broad digital landscape.

Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain enterprise application architectures aligned with business objectives and technology strategy.
  • Design and assure secure, scalable, resilient and cost-effective application solutions.
  • Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including high-level designs, detailed solution designs, architecture decision records and technology roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise, Solution, Infrastructure and Security Architects to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Define application integration approaches including APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Ensure solutions comply with security, privacy, accessibility, governance and legislative requirements.
  • Support architecture governance, design assurance and technical review processes.
  • Work with business stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical technology solutions.
  • Contribute to application lifecycle management, technology planning and strategic investment decisions.
  • Promote Agile, DevOps and continuous improvement practices across delivery teams.
  • Identify and manage architectural risks, technical debt and platform dependencies.
  • Provide mentoring and promote architectural best practice across multidisciplinary teams.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience designing and governing enterprise application architectures within large, complex environments.
  • Proven ability to produce architecture artefacts including high-level designs, detailed solution designs, architecture decision records, standards and technology roadmaps.
  • Strong experience with application modernisation, cloud adoption, integration and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of contemporary architecture patterns including APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture and cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application services.
  • Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience using enterprise architecture frameworks and modelling tools.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Ability to mentor technical teams and provide architectural leadership across projects.
  • Baseline Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
