Position Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced Accessibility Practitioner (Digital Accessibility Specialist) to support the delivery and sustainment of accessible digital services within a large and complex government environment. This role will work closely with multidisciplinary delivery teams to ensure digital platforms, applications, and content meet accessibility standards and provide inclusive user experiences for all Australians. The successful candidate will contribute to accessibility reviews, compliance assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives across enterprise systems in an agile delivery environment.
Key Duties
- Conduct accessibility reviews of wireframes, prototypes, developed interfaces, and existing digital systems
- Perform WCAG compliance audits across websites, mobile applications, digital documents, and emails
- Use assistive technologies including screen readers, speech recognition software, and accessibility tools to assess usability and compliance
- Identify opportunities for accessibility improvements across delivery and sustainment teams
- Participate in agile ceremonies, planning sessions, and estimation activities
- Collaborate with designers, developers, analysts, product owners, and business stakeholders to advocate for accessibility best practices
- Create and manage accessibility-related work items within Azure DevOps
- Support accessibility requirements throughout system development and sustainment lifecycles
- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, inclusive digital solutions aligned with government accessibility standards
Skills and Experience Required
- Demonstrated experience working as an Accessibility Practitioner or Digital Accessibility Specialist within medium to large enterprise environments
- Strong understanding of WCAG standards and accessibility compliance methodologies
- Experience performing accessibility audits and assessments across a range of digital platforms and content types
- Practical experience using assistive technologies and accessibility testing tools
- Ability to work effectively within agile delivery environments and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience collaborating with UI/UX Designers, Service Designers, Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and SCRUM teams
- Passion for digital inclusion and accessibility advocacy
- Ability to identify, document, and manage accessibility requirements and remediation activities
- Experience using Azure DevOps or similar work management platforms
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
