Most people throughout their careers will deal with a recruiter to find a job at some point. Finding a new role can be a stressful process for anybody regardless of how many interviews they’ve previously had. Our recruiters work to get to know their candidates and place them in the best role. In this role reversal we get to know our Recruiters in Auckland both at work, and in their personal lives.
Kara Smith, General Manager – Auckland
What makes you want to come to work at Talent every day?
What I love about recruitment is we are the masters of our own destiny and every day I have the opportunity to achieve whatever I put my mind to.
What is your fondest moment at Talent International?
To build a business, you obviously need to hire people but the real objective is to build a TEAM. There was a moment in our last Christmas party when we were all dancing together and in that moment I just knew we had built a real TEAM.
What have you learnt in your time in your role as General Manager?
That asking for help is not a weakness.
What is your biggest accomplishment at Talent?
Being promoted into the GM role was a big one. For me, this meant that others could see my potential and that support and belief in me meant everything.
What did you think you’d be doing in high school compared to what you actually do now?
I thought I’d be a lawyer. In fact I went to Michigan State University with these intentions but it really wasn’t for me.
What’s an interesting hobby or skill you have?
I’m a big fan of Zumba but I’m currently attending the boxing training for the IT Heavy Hitters training camp. I’m not sure boxing is a hobby or a skill to be honest, but I just keep showing up!
Who’s been your biggest influence in life?
My mother Beryl who built an amazing international career whilst raising 5 children. I owe everything to my mum and someday hope to pay her back.
Something nobody at work would know about you?
There’s not a lot – I’m a pretty open book and not shy to open up!
