Talent International are currently recruiting for an experienced Work Health and Safety Advisor to work for one of our NSW Government clients based in Parramatta CBD. This position is a contract role currently approved till 30 June 2024 with the view to be extended and is paying $61.27 per hour plus superannuation. The position will be a hybrid role and the successful candidate will be required to work in the office 5 days a fortnight.

The position would need to analyse data, audit, develop reports, be able to investigate Incidents, be proactive on improving systems and processes. Excel skills to manage data bases. SharePoint knowledge would be an advantage, but not necessary.

Primary purpose of the role

Provides high quality WH&S services and supports the Divisions ensuring a whole-of-lifecycle approach to safety including:

  • Legal and Other Requirements
  • Contractors, Suppliers and Procurement
  • Objectives, Targets and Indicators
  • Audit, Monitoring and Review
  • Consultation, Communication and Issue Resolution.

The role also promotes a culture of risk awareness and safe work practices by providing expert guidance and advice on WH&S risks and supporting the implementation of the organisations WH&S management system and risk management programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide managers and employees with timely and accurate guidance and advice on WH&S risk, to ensure consistent application of the organisations WH&S policies, procedures and guidelines and adherence to WH&S legislation.
  • Analyse, review and recommend improvements to the WH&S management system to facilitate compliance with the organisations objectives, relevant legislation, regulations/codes of practice and/or standards.
  • Audit the current WH&S System and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Provide advice and assistance to Divisions in risk management including hazard identification, risk assessment and controls and the implementation of safe systems of work.
  • Support Divisions in the investigation of incidents, hazards and near misses including identifying corrective action resources or assistance required.
  • Undertake the design, development and delivery of strategic work health and safety training programs and co-ordinate relevant WH&S committees.
  • Prepare WH&S performance metrics to inform senior management on Divisional trends and risks.
  • Manage workers compensation claims in compliance with NSW legislation and policies ensuring implementation of strategies designed to minimise costs and premiums such as recovery at work plans, follow up of medical certificates and medical accounts, wage recoup and potential closure of no longer active files.

Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in WH&S and an understanding of current legislation, policy and obligations.
  • Return to work experience.
  • Tertiary qualifications in WH&S or related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment.
  • Certificate IV in WH&S or ability to obtain the certificate.
  • Current driver license and ability and willingness to travel.
  • May involve travel both locally and regionally, including overnight travel, as required by the business and/or directed.
